One of the reasons conflict arises on surrogacy is because participated women belong to a poor, uneducated, or insufficient educational background. Continuation of such a trend perceived about surrogacy makes it exploitative.
A divergent opinion demonstrated that surrogacy is an opportunity for the empowerment of poor women. Opting for commercial surrogacy gives a chance to earn a significant financial benefit to support their family and also to control male domination.
Surrogacy is a noble invention of assisted reproductive technology (ART). Many involuntarily childless couples from all over the globe want to opt for surrogacy.
In Ukraine, the educational level of surrogate mothers is a little lower than the general population. The survey report stated that surrogate mothers usually completed their secondary vocational education.
This survey report also found that 40% of surrogate mothers are unemployed because they have small children. However, almost 60% of women who have applied for surrogacy in Ukraine can also be university students.
If we consider the marital status of the surrogate mothers in Ukraine, then it has been found that almost 35% have never been married and 65% are married. Following are some common reasons for Ukrainian women to become surrogate mothers:
- Purchase housing
- Desire to increase the standard of living for them and their child
- Planning to repair property
- A desire to start their own business
- Plan to receive an education for themselves and their children
- Make savings in the bank
Surrogate mothers in Ukraine have some suitable lifestyle features that make them a good candidate for surrogacy as they believe in a friendly relationship, advanced will, keep secrets, reliance on the fairness and affability of people. They have not disposed to react agonizingly on any topics in communication and to criticism.
They are not very responsive to the conflict and are not inclined to delayed misery or despairing. They realize the solid propensity to negative feeling responses might contrarily affect them during the surrogacy pregnancy or after it because there is an issue of postpartum depression.
Surrogate moms in Ukraine have portrayed themselves as solid-willed individuals that make them not the same as others. Prospective surrogate mothers in Ukraine pass their gestational period by enjoying their hobbies like predominantly named crafts, games with their kid, childcare, photo-shooting of their kid/kids.
Consideration of surrogacy as ‘care work,’ could be incorporated as the rights of surrogate mothers into existing labor rights legislation. Such regulations may increase the possibility to avoid stigma and other social discrimination towards surrogate mothers by involving local norms. Besides, the surrogate mother would ideally be someone who is valued and respected during the interaction between the surrogate mother and the intended parents, as well as financial compensation require to allow for her services. These overall changes may also break down the divergent global opinion about surrogacy.
